Working with Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Council's ASB Team, we have secured a Closure Order for a property in Charter Way, Penzance, following persistent Anti-Social Behaviour that was having a significant impact on the local community.
A Closure Order is a legal power that can temporarily close a property where serious ASB or criminal activity is causing harm to residents and neighbours. It is used only after thorough investigation and when other support, intervention and enforcement measures have been exhausted.
Louise Beard, Deputy CEO at Coastline Housing, said: "This outcome reflects months of partnership working, investigation and evidence gathering to address issues that were having a serious impact on local residents. Throughout the process, we worked closely with Devon and Cornwall Police, Cornwall Council's ASB Team and local customers to build a clear picture of what was happening and determine the most appropriate course of action.
"We could not have achieved this result without the support of residents who reported incidents, completed diary sheets, provided statements and continued to work with us and our partners. Their information was instrumental in helping us take effective action. We would also like to thank the local police team, Cornwall Council's ASB Team, Coastline Services for securing the property, and Sam Price, our Tenancy Management Coordinator, for his dedication and persistence throughout this case.
"At Coastline, we take reports of Anti-Social Behaviour seriously. We investigate concerns thoroughly, work proactively with partner agencies and use a range of interventions to try to resolve issues at the earliest opportunity. However, where serious or persistent behaviour continues to harm our communities, we will not hesitate to take robust legal action to protect residents and neighbourhoods.
"Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and community. We remain committed to listening to our customers, acting on the concerns they raise and doing everything we can to create places where people can live peacefully and thrive."
The Closure Order will remain in place for three months, and can be extended by another three months after that.
