Experian Rental Exchange
Get recognised for paying your rent on time.
Tenants of social landlords sometimes struggle to get affordable loans, a mortgage, credit cards or to open bank accounts because they do not have a credit history. That is a track record of paying off credit agreements, such as loans, in the past and proof of where you live and sometimes where you have lived before.
If you are in this position and need credit then the only option may be to take out a high interest loan from a door step or high street lender.
This is what Coastline wants to do something about. We strongly believe that your rent payment history should be used to help you get affordable credit.
Experian and Big Issue Invest
We have teamed up with Experian, the UK's biggest credit reference agency and a highly respected and trusted custodian of personal data, along with Big Issue Invest, part of the well-known Big Issue Group of companies, to help our tenants with some of these challenges.
You don't need to do anything
Coastline will share your tenancy information with Experian, including your track record for paying your rent and service charges to us. This could make it easier for you to apply for credit or bank accounts in the future.
We have consulted with our involved tenants about this partnership. They understood the advantages for tenants and support this initiative.
For full details please see the booklets you can download at the foot of the page or visit Experian's website.
Remember, it is your choice to opt out if you do not wish to participate. Please contact us should you have any questions.
Helping your contact with other organisations
Sharing your tenancy track record will enable Experian to assist other landlords and organisations to:
- Assess and manage any new tenancy agreements you may enter into
- Assess your financial standing to provide you with suitable products and services
- Manage any accounts that you may already hold, for example reviewing suitable products or adjusting your current product in light of your current circumstances
- Contact you in relation to any accounts you may have and recovering debts that you may owe
- Verify your identity and address to help them make decisions about services they offer
- Help prevent crime, fraud and money laundering
With Experian we will ensure that your information is treated in accordance with the General Data Protection Rules (known as GDPR), so you can have peace of mind that it will be kept secure and confidential. It will only be made available to a company or organisation if your tenancy information is relevant and you have agreed to them doing a check, or where it is strictly necessary for them to check information about your tenancy.
We understand that in some circumstances there may be rent arrears on your account. Where this is the case, you should be aware this will have a negative impact on your credit history, including any credit scores linked to this history.
