Coastline supports customers who are in need of extra help with maintaining a tenancy, or day-to-day tasks.
• Our sheltered housing team looks after 32 sheltered schemes across the district.
• Our Coastline Care team provides care and support in the home, to customers who need it to remain independent.
• The New Connection helps people who have found themselves homeless to get 'back on their feet' again and move into a home of their own.
We also offer an ActiveLink service, which provides telecare monitoring equipment and an urgent response alarm for people who are finding it harder to live on their own at home.
What is Sheltered Accommodation?
Sheltered Housing is self contained accommodation for people aged over 60, or others who have a disability. It is designed for people who need the reassurance of knowing that emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day. It is ideal if you want to live independently while knowing that help is on hand if needed.
All Sheltered Housing accommodation is served by a Supported Housing Officer and each property is provided with an Emergency Alarm system. This is connected to the Supported Housing Officer during duty hours or to the 24 hour Emergency Alarm Centre.
We have 32 Sheltered Housing schemes with homes available to rent. Each property has a bedroom, bathroom, lounge and a kitchen. Some have communal lounges, laundry facilities, lifts, disabled bathing facilities, guest rooms and door entry systems. All properties have smoke detectors, with fire alarm systems in the complexes.
One of our schemes, Miners Court, is being updated and remodelled to create one of the first Extra Care schemes in Cornwall. This will offer more facilities and personal care, allowing residents to live independently in their own homes for longer.
How do I apply for Sheltered Housing?
The application process for Sheltered Housing is the same as for any other property. Click here to apply.
To qualify for Sheltered Housing you must either be over 60 or be entitled to register under the Chronically Sick and Disabled Act 1970.
If you would like to view any of our sheltered housing properties please contact the Supported Housing Manager on 08082027728 or email sylvia.evans@coastlinehousing.co.uk
What happens once you have applied?
Your application will be processed and you will be shortlisted for suitable properties. You can find out about your position on the waiting list from the Allocations department.
When a property is found which may be suitable, a Supported Housing Officer will contact you to arrange an accompanied viewing. During this viewing he/she will explain about the sheltered service and assess your needs.
Once you move in, the Supported Housing Officer will introduce you to the service and design a Support Plan with you. A Support Plan identifies your basic needs and the services we need to provide for you. You will also be given an 'Introduction to Sheltered Housing Pack', with more information about your scheme.
We aim to meet the varying needs of new and existing customers. So let us know if you have a request for an adaptation to your home because of a disability, or would like information in a different language or format such as Braille, audio cassette or large print.
