Garden magic!

Garden magic!

Spots of paradise throughout the Kerrier district have been descended upon by the judges of Coastline Housing's garden competition.

Gardens featuring wonderful water features, delicious award-winning vegetables, hand-made models of windmills and watermills and even some singing and dancing flowers were discovered with delight by the judges of the annual garden competition.

A number of customers of the Company living in towns and villages across Kerrier including Camborne, Redruth, Helston, Mullion, Illogan, Mawnan Smith, Constantine and Mabe all proudly entered their gardens into the contest.

A huge range of imaginative displays had been created by the enthusiastic gardeners including topiary, colourful rockeries and rose gardens. A common theme in this year's competition was sustainability, with many entrants carefully recycling 'rubbish' into unusual planters and garden ornaments.

The judges also had the unusual pleasure of meeting a family of over 220 gnomes and garden ornaments on their visit to one alternative garden in Camborne.

Chairman of Coastline Housing, Dr John Lander, and professional gardener, Jeannie Bates, had the difficult job of judging all the many superb entries in this year's competition - and braving some extremely bad weather in order to do so!

Dr Lander said: "Once again I welcomed the opportunity to meet and talk with so many of our residents. Some of them have had to show great tenacity and courage to create and maintain their gardens to such a high standard. We very much appreciate the time and effort of all those who entered the competition."

Jeannie Bates added: "It's great that the competition is so popular and it's a real pleasure to see everyone's gardens and share the inspiration and joy of gardening."

The overall winner of the Neil Dutton Memorial Cup was David Titley of Redruth.
