Following the recent issues raised in the media about safety concerns surrounding properties which have water tanks in the lofts to feed an immersion hot water cylinder, Coastline Housing has put together some information for customers.
Properties not at risk:
The properties not at risk are:
. Properties which have combination boilers
. Properties which have the dual thermostat fitted
If you are unsure whether you have a combination boiler or a dual thermostat, please call us on 08452 700 720, and we will be able to tell you from our records.
Properties with loft tanks:
If you have a loft tank in your home, please be reassured that instances of the type which have been publicised recently are very rare. However, you should look out for the following symptoms:
. Excessively hot water coming out of the hot water taps;
. Excessive noise or 'bubbling' from the hot water cylinder;
. Hot water coming out of certain cold water taps (some storage cisterns also feed cold water taps in the bathroom);
. Steam/moisture in the roof space.
. Constant stream of water from external overflow pipe
Please be assured that these symptoms will develop over time, and not instantly.
If you are experiencing any of these problems:
1. Switch off the immersion heater at the electrical point
2. Call Blue Flame on 0800 023 2966 immediately and request an engineer's visit
If your home has a loft tank but no problems have been identified, your system must be working correctly. If any of the symptoms begin however, you should:
1. Switch off the immersion heater at the electrical point
2. Call Blue Flame on 0800 023 2966 immediately and request an engineer's visit
All of our heating systems are comprehensively maintained and customers must be assured that a large number have also been fitted with dual safety immersion thermostats during the last 3 years.
Remember, we also have a 24-hour responsive repair service should you experience problems at any time of the day or night.
