Customers of Coastline Housing who are unemployed or on long-term-benefits are being offered a helping hand back into the world of work, thanks to a partnership project between the housing association and Lizard Pathways.
Steve Harry, an employment facilitator for Lizard Pathways, is being funded to work with customers of the social landlord for three days a week until June 2008.
Coastline customers who are thinking about returning to work or training will be able to get free help and advice to set them back onto a career path. The service is completely confidential and open to any customers who would like to make the most of it.
Steve explains: "The Government has pledged its commitment to help get more people off benefits and back to work. Now's the chance for people in the Kerrier area to take the opportunity to get some of that help."
"A lot of people who have been out of work for some time are reluctant about going to visit a job centre because it is all very official and they are worried pressure will be put upon them. If this is the case, I'd encourage people to think about having an informal and confidential chat with me to find out about the opportunities open to them, without any commitment."
Coastline Housing has around 3,500 properties in the Kerrier district, meaning that thousands of local people who are customers of the landlord now have the potential to access this new service.
