Did you know that as a tenant of a housing association you may be able to buy the home you live in now under the Government's 'Right to Buy' and 'Right to Acquire' schemes?
The schemes were set up to give more people the chance of owning a home of their own. Although buying a property can be expensive, these schemes help eligible tenants to get on to the property ladder by letting them buy their home at a reduced price.
The rules about who is eligible and which properties are excluded from the scheme are set by the Government, not by us. Although the 2 schemes have slightly different rules they both operate in a similar way:
- Both you and the home you live in have to be eligible for the scheme;
- Both schemes allow you to purchase your home at a discount. You can receive up to £30,000 if you have the 'Right to Buy' depending on how long you have been a tenant. The discount for the 'Right to Acquire' is fixed at £10,000 for the South West
