Coastline Housing Ltd designed a 5 year programme of works that would meet the Government's basic Decent Homes Standard by 2010.
The plan was published to all customers and distributed to staff and contractors. This 'ready reference' document gives a clear view of what works will be carried out and when.
Regular review and development by a consultation group of customers and staff has taken place. A 'partnering' approach with contractors has given further involvement and benefits which have been incorporated in the works process.
Going the extra mile or 'Decent Homes Plus'
In January 2006 a small working group set about discussing what additional benefits Coastline Housing were providing and agreed to consult a wider customer base on the way forward.
Works already being carried out in excess of the basic standard:
. Additional loft insulation
. Full double glazing
. Both modern kitchens and bathrooms
. Low maintenance facias, gutters and soffits
. Smoke alarms to properties housing vulnerable customers
. Additional door security for vulnerable customers
. New leaseholders provided with double glazed windows
. All PRC homes fully insulated by March 2007
Decent Homes Refusals.
Some of our customers, for one reason or another choose to refuse the improvements that are offered them.
We would like to urge you to accept the works and if you wish to discuss ways in which we can carry out the works with a minimum disturbance to your home then please ring our Customer Services on 08452 700720 and ask to be put through to the Project Officer in charge of that improvement.
Shown below is a table that illustrates the type of works that are currently being refused.

The Housing Corporation have recently stated that.
"Dwellings which will be excluded from
any final count of the number of
non-decent homes are: those homes
where an individual tenant has specifically
requested that improvements to their home
not be undertaken.
The association must make provision in its
business plan to do the work in future when
the property becomes vacant."
If, after careful consideration and communication with our Project Officers you still feel unable to accept the improvements we are offering then we request that you sign a paper declining the works. This will enable us to record your refusals in our annual returns to the Housing Corporation and help fulfil our commitment to the Government's drive to get your home to the Decency Standard by the financial year 2010/11.
