Coastline Housing Ltd. would like to make you aware of potential dangers you, or the people that may help you, may face.
It is still possible to encounter asbestos products in and around the home, in building materials and consumer goods. As potential sources of fibrous dust they must be treated with caution.
The following building products and fittings used in homes may contain some asbestos:
Insulating boards
Asbestos insulating board has been used for fire protection, heat insulation, ceiling tiles and as a building board. This may be encountered as boxing in around pipework in your home and in warm air heating systems for lining cupboards housing the heater unit.
Asbestos cement
Flat or corrugated sheeting has been used for garage and shed roofs and wall coverings. Moulded asbestos cement has been used for cold water tanks, external rainwater pipes, asbestos cement slates, guttering, decking, lining under eaves and flue pipes. Asbestos cement is used in roofing materials, pressure sewerage and drainage pipes and wall and roof covering materials.
Textured plasters, materials for stippling ceilings, walls, etc.
Some of these products may contain asbestos. Once installed, such surfaces should not be removed but painted to keep sealed.
Other building materials
Some plastic floor tiles, cushion flooring, roofing felts, paints, jointings and packings - e.g. boiler and flue sealing - may contain asbestos.
Please Remember
* Asbestos containing materials are normally harmless if left undisturbed
* Do not saw, sand, scrape, or drill holes in asbestos materials
