The Board

Coastline Housing is governed by a Board including customer representatives, independent directors and co-opted directors.

Derek Law MBE

Derek Law MBE

Joined the Board: 14/05/12

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Audit, Assurance & Risk Committee member, Property & Investment Committee member.

 

Other directorships: Non-Executive Director of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

 

Background: 39 years working in social care, including 13 years as Deputy Director of Social Services in Cornwall and the last 7 years as Corporate Director of Adult Services in North Yorkshire.

 

Other interests: Golf, cycling and walking the Cornwall coastal path.

Helen Riley-Humfrey

Joined the Board: 04/09/09

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Audit, Assurance & Risk Committee member, Coastline Design & Build Board member.

 

Background: Helen has spent 30 years in education, starting as a secondary school teacher and concluding as Vice Principal of an FE College and University centre. She recently retired from working for Public Health, commissioning health and wellbeing programmes. Helen has always been interested in the links between education, housing and health and has been involved in a number of community activities linking these three areas. She had previously spent eight years on the Board of Devon and Cornwall Housing. She has held various other Board positions (regional BBC Board, Objective 1 Board) and brings these skills and understanding to Coastline's Board. She has lived in Cornwall since 1986. Her stepson lives in Lancaster with his wife and son.

 

Other Interests: Gardening and dog walking her Chocolate Labrador ‘Sam’ and Bulldog ‘Bertie’.

Peter Stephens

Joined the Board: 01/01/13

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Chair of Property & Investment Committee.

 

Background: Peter was born and grew up in Cornwall and has held a number of senior positions with manufacturing and service companies. He has also been a Non-Executive Director of Raven Housing based near Gatwick.

 

Other interests: Peter and his wife have completely renovated an old house in the Falmouth area in the last few years, doing much of the work themselves and are now completing the garden. Peter also supports the local Foodbank in Penryn helping with collections from churches and stores. The majority of his family live outside Britain, so he and his wife travel frequently to visit their children and grandchildren who are spread from Mylor to Sydney.

John Waldron

Joined the Board: 01/10/13

Background: John retired after 45 years in the property industry in the South West with extensive business management, sales and development experience.

 

Other interests: Spending time with my wife, four grown-up children and a growing number of grandchildren. I also enjoy playing golf, travelling and moorland walking.

Deepak Chandra

Joined the Board: 01/09/13

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Audit, Assurance & Risk Committee member.

 

Background: Deepak is a senior executive with a proven track record in housing, finance, private equity, property development and regeneration fields. He has led complex programmes and multidisciplinary teams within the public, voluntary and commercial sectors.

Sue Roberts

Joined the Board: 01/10/13

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Member of Coastline Services Board, Property & Investment Committee member.

 

Background: Five years as an involved customer with Coastline Housing on various Action Teams and Sounding Boards.

 

Other interests: Visiting my family, especially my grandchildren. Volunteering with Oxfam, CHSW, a local Foodbank and Helston Museum. Member of Helston U3A. I enjoy crafts and reading to relax.

Philip Bearne

Joined the Board: 18/05/15

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Chair of Coastline Services Board.

 

Background: Philip spent most of his career in construction, initially as a quantity surveyor and then managing companies, whose work included the refurbishment, repair and development of social housing. He also has experience of speculative development of homes.

 

Before joining Coastline he was on the DCH operations Board for almost three years. He is also Chair of the Community Land Trust in his home village with the aim of providing affordable rural homes, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing.

 

Other interests: A keen long-standing member of Rotary, with an interest in the Shelterbox charity, a follower of motorsport and enjoys working on the redevelopment of his own home.

Mark Butterworth

Joined the Board: 01/01/17

 

Other positions held within Coastline Group: Audit, Assurance & Risk Committee member.

 

Background: Mark has enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry, including Prudential Assurance and Lloyd's of London. He is a past Chairman of the Institute of Risk Management and is currently a member of the IRM Nominations Committee. 

 

Other interests: Mark enjoys running, golf and walking the North Cornwall coastal path. He is curently a director of Condie, a risk management, governance and training firm.

Fiona Perrin

Joined the Board: 01/01/18

 

Background: Fiona is an experienced board-level Business Director with specific expertise in sales and marketing and a track record of leading businesses to achieve ambitious aspirations and will bring a passionate belief in action to support social progression and equality to the Coastline Group.

 

Other interests: Creative writing, travel, reading, walking, obstacle course running

Sue Coulson

Joined the Board: 01/01/18

 

Background: Sue joins the Coastline Group Board bringing an extensive range of skills gained from various executive directorships within the housing sector including Devon & Cornwall Housing, Three Valleys Housing and Orbit Group as well as working with the NHF as a management consultant. Sue has also been a Board member with the Aster Group.

 

Other interests: Skiing, wakeboarding, running, cycling, walking, camping, travelling and visiting museums and galleries.

Allister Young

Allister Young

Chief Executive

Allister Young joined Coastline as Director of Finance in April 2012.  He qualified as a chartered accountant within the commercial division of PricewaterhouseCoopers in London.

 

Allister has over 12 years’ experience at a senior finance level, including 10 at Director level.

 

His previous roles include Assistant Director of Finance at the Peabody Trust (specialising in new projects and corporate finance), Director of Finance & Resources at Tree Aid (an African development charity) and Finance Director at Bristol Community Housing Foundation.
