In this section, you will find a wealth of information about how to pay your rent, and how to cope if you think you might be falling into rent arrears.
Here's a list of the ways you can pay your rent:
Direct Debit
If you have a bank or building society account, Direct Debit is a quick, efficient and secure way to pay your rent. Payments can be taken automatically on the 1st or 15th of each month, or weekly on a Friday.
You will need to complete a Direct Debit mandate and return it to us. Mandates are available from our office, or you can download a form from www.coastlinehousing.co.uk .
Once your Direct Debit is set up, we will notify you of your payments in writing, at least 10 days prior to the first payment. This is to give you time to contact us if you have any queries.
If there are any changes to your rent or your housing benefit entitlement, we will automatically adjust your payments and notify you in writing.
Direct Debit payers are also eligible for a prize draw, see the ‘rent incentive schemes’ section for more information.
Standing Order
If you have a bank or building society account, you can also pay by standing order. We can provide you with a mandate, which you will need to complete and forward to your bank. Coastline Housing Ltd have no control over standing orders, so it will be your responsibility to set it up, and amend payments as necessary whenever there is a rent increase or change to your housing benefit – this is why we recommend Direct Debit as the easier option.
Payment card (also known as a swipe card)
You can use a payment card to pay your rent at any Post Office, Paypoint, Payzone or post office outlet – anywhere in the country, using cash, cheque or debit card.
You do not have to fill in any bank or giro slips – simply give your payment card to the cashier and tell them how much you want to pay. The cashier will swipe your payment card through an electronic reader and enter the amount you have paid. You will then receive a receipt confirming your payment.
The cashier cannot see your rent account when you use your payment card, your privacy is protected at all times.
