Healthy workplace award

Coastline receives a silver healthy workplace award

Coastline Housing has been awarded silver in the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Healthy Workplace Awards for making a big effort to keep its local employees fit and healthy.

Coastline employs over 200 people locally and embarked on a healthy workplace initiative last year.

In the past 12 months, employees have been offered free flu jabs, corporate gym membership deals, health screening sessions covering blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol testing and a confidential counselling and advice service for any stresses and strains in work or in their personal lives.

Employees have also started up a Coastline 5-a-side football team, taken part in cycling and paintballing events and undertaken a sponsored 12.5 mile walk. They are currently planning a pedometer challenge to encourage people to get away from their desks and exercise their legs during the working day.

David Wingham, Director of Corporate Services at Coastline, has driven the healthy workplace initiative from the start. He said: “One of our main corporate objectives is to be a good and respected employer, so encouraging our staff to become healthier at work is seen as an excellent way of doing this.

“Our staff are crucial to our business, so investing in them in different ways is very important to us.”

Rachel Faulkner, Workplace Health Coordinator for NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, added: "It is fantastic to see Coastline Housing taking the health and well-being of their staff so importantly and really embedding it within the organisation. They have really invested in the wellbeing of their staff and have put on and developed some excellent opportunities for their staff to engage in. It was a great pleasure to see them become one of the first businesses in Cornwall to achieve the new Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Healthy Workplace Award and it was well deserved. A real local example of how all businesses should invest and look after their key asset - their staff.”
