New homes in Redruth

New homes in Redruth are officially opened

Town Mayor Cllr Ian Thomas and Cornwall Councillor Mark Kaczmarek have proudly unveiled a development of 10 new homes in Redruth, on behalf of local landlord Coastline Housing.

The homes, at Lowarth Elms, on Green Lane in Redruth, comprise eight houses and two apartments and were developed at a total cost of £1.7million.

The development was funded largely thanks to an injection of just over £800K from the Homes and Communities Agency and Cornwall Council, and provide more much-needed affordable housing for local people and families in the Redruth area.

All of the properties have been built by Mi-Space to high environmental standards, and feature highly efficient boilers and mechanical heat recovery systems, which take heat from the warmer rooms in the house (kitchens and bathrooms) and pipe it through to colder rooms (bedrooms and lounge).

Robert Nettleton, Chief Executive of Coastline Housing, said: “We are very pleased to complete this development, particularly as 80% are large family homes, in a very central location, with easy access to local facilities. We are also delighted that all the homes have been let to local people.”

The properties have been named Lowarth Elms because of their location in the grounds of ‘The Elms’ house, an old mansion complex in the centre of Redruth. Many will remember the property being used in the past by the former Kerrier District Council, perhaps most notably as a local job centre.

The Elms itself is currently being refurbished and redeveloped into a community hub by local charity and social enterprise CN4C, with easy access for the residents in the town.

In the spirit of community involvement and neighbourliness, CN4C presented its plans for the community hub to the new Coastline tenants during a sign-up day, and offered residents the use of all facilities within the main Elms building once the refurbishment is complete, explaining there will be ample opportunities for activities such as coffee mornings, kids clubs, art classes, environment classes, education and use of a media suite.
