Two local apprentices have just completed their first year in business with Coastline Services, based in Pool.
Cory Callaway, who is undertaking a two-year plumbing apprenticeship, attended Pool Business and Enterprise College and previously trained and worked as a hairdresser before deciding on a career change. He explains: “I enjoyed hairdressing, but fancied a change and I’ve learnt an awful lot about plumbing during my first year. I get to do a wide variety of tasks and it’s great learning on the job.”
Darren Booker is undertaking a two-year electrical apprenticeship and previously attended Truro School. He adds: “I used to work for a construction company and thought this would be a good career move. I’ve been working all over the district, on various kitchen and bathroom projects, which has been really interesting.”
Both apprentices have been undertaking their apprenticeships through Cornwall College.
Ken Govier, Managing Director at Coastline Services, said: “A company’s biggest asset is its workforce and schemes like this are win-win initiatives. The Company gets the benefit of employing bright, young professionals, while providing employment for local people in a supportive working environment. We are proud to be a part of an apprenticeship scheme that helps nurture local talent and ensures that it is not lost to our community."
Coastline Services specialises in property and grounds maintenance, and is the subsidiary company of Coastline Housing. The firm is currently working with Cornwall College to recruit two more apprentices in the horticulture and grounds maintenance arena.
