A sponsored ‘Coastline to Coastline’ walk from Portreath to Devoran organised by Coastline Housing employees in aid of Target Ovarian Cancer has raised over £4,000.
Over 30 walkers including employees, their families, friends and canine companions undertook the 12.5 mile walk complete with Target Ovarian Cancer balloons, stickers and collecting tins.
Employees wanted to undertake the walk for this particular cause because Ovarian Cancer is something that has tragically touched the lives of a number of colleagues this year.
Barry Cox, IT Technician, was one of the key organisers of the sponsored walk. He said: “In February this year, my mum sadly lost her 6 month fight with Ovarian Cancer. She was only 55. Ovarian Cancer is commonly referred to as the silent killer, as unfortunately by the time it is detected it is often too late. Sadly many of my colleagues at Coastline have also lost members of their family to this disease.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that took part, the people, organisations and contractors who sponsored us, and just generally supported this cause. It’s been a great effort, a large achievement by all and a fantastic tribute to our lost loved ones. It’s important to raise money for this cause, and it’s also important to raise awareness of this disease.”
