Residents from Reduth and Camborne have been involved in improving and raising the profile of an historic memorial in Camborne.
Trevithick and Murdoch Area panel is a group of Coastline Housing residents that regularly meets to discuss issues that affect the Redruth and Camborne areas.
The panel sent out a survey to residents in Manor Road and Rectory Road, Camborne to find out their priorities for the area. The results showed that local residents wanted the King George V memorial at the junction of Manor Road and Rectory Road to be tidied up and a plaque installed to show the significance of the memorial.
Jilly Wright, a panel member said: ‘This local landmark is clearly important to residents and we wanted to make sure that it is cared for and respected, and that people understand just what the memorial stands for.’
Working with other groups and obtaining funding from Coastline Housing, a plaque, supplied by Steve Mills in partnership with Kernow Signs, has been fitted and plants and flowers now surround the memorial courtesy of the town council.
To celebrate the occasion, Camborne Town Mayor, John Beare joined local residents in a ceremony that took place on Saturday 13 November.
