Coastline Housing has proudly unveiled a development of 18 new affordable homes in the Treleigh area of Redruth, with the help of local Mayor Cllr Mrs Barbara Ellenbrook and Councillor Mark Kazmarek.
The homes, which are a mixture of houses, bungalows and apartments ranging from one-bedroom to three-bedrooms, have been developed at a total cost of £2.3million. The development was funded largely thanks to funding of nearly £900K from the Homes and Communities Agency, and £360K from Cornwall Council.
Robert Nettleton, Chief Executive of Coastline Housing, says: “We are delighted to provide 21st century homes for local people and regenerate a once derelict site.
“This scheme has been an excellent example of partnership working and we are extremely grateful to the local community, Cornwall Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, Redruth Town Council and CPR Regeneration for working together to create these new homes for local people.
“We know that these homes will make a real difference to local individuals, couples and families in need of a home of their own.”
The development, on the former Lark Construction site, comprises a mix of rented housing and shared-ownership (part buy, part rent) properties, for people looking to get a foot on the housing ladder.
Designed by architects Trewin Design, and constructed by Rok Build, the homes have been finished ahead of their original completion date of December this year.
The new neighbourhood has been a hive of activity recently as the first residents began to move in.
Laura Haynes, Head of Development at Coastline Housing, said: “The day after the properties were completed, we handed over 10 keys to some new tenants, and one couple had all their carpets fitted by 10.30am the same morning. Now that’s good planning! In all seriousness, we hope all the new tenants will be extremely happy in their new homes.”
This scheme is the first housing development in Redruth (and for Coastline) to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. This energy efficiency standard has to be attained by all newly built affordable homes and includes items such as solar panels, highly efficient gas combi boilers and radically improved levels of insulation, all of which means reduced future running costs for customers.
